Reported by: Chris Jowett

Banks W.I. met on Thursday April 7th at Meols Court Lounge, Schwartzman Drive.

The speakers were Linda and Alan Tabener on life in the Army Medical Reserve Corps in Afghanistan. They talked about the dangers they faced in looking after the welfare of our troops and dealing with the injured of all nationalities. They showed some very harrowing pictures of very badly hurt soldiers and civilians, especially the children. They also talked about the training they had to undergo, and the equipment they had to carry before being sent out for 4 months.

The competition was Military Memorabilia, which was won by Sheila. There were some quite dangerous looking exhibits, including some WW2 shells found on Banks marshes.

The next meeting will be on Thursday, May 12th at 7.30pm (Please note the change of date) when we will hold “The Great Banks Bake Off”. Members are asked to make and bring their favourite cake.
